"The Tourtoise and the Solar Plant": Time for Kids January 15, 2010
Read the article on p. 6 "The Tortoise and the Solar Plant". This is a really difficult decision! Do you think they should build the solar plant or not? Explain why or why not including several reasons.
I think they should build a solar plant. It would give people jobs in California and could power 142,000 homes. Solar power plants are good for the environment because they transform the sun's radiaiton in to power for homes. Hopefully they can move the tortoises close by.
I think that they should build the solar plant on half of the field and give the tortoises the other half. That way it's fair for the turtles and the earth. The turtles that were on the side they build the plant they should take their time to gently move the turtles to the other side.
I think they should build the plant on one side and put a fence up between the turtles and the plant. Everyone would be happy that way. There would be no arguments. I wonder what they will really do?
I think they should build the solar plant. I think it wouldn't be right to hurt the tortoises but they can move them to a safe place.The solar plant is really good for lots of reason. I think its really good to build them because it could power a lot of homes and create lots of jobs. It is also good because it is clean, renewable energy. I say move the tortoises and build the solar plant, or find a different sunny location for the solar plant.
I think they should not build the plant because animals are important and the tourtoises are endangered and this plant could kill them all off.What if the tourtoises have babies but they don't escape in time they would die.I think the peeps building this plant are crazy and it makes me more inclined to be a vet and protect animals!!! Thats why they should not build that silly old plant.

NO! because if they could do it in another spot, it is not worth killing off a species. It is a good project but they should do it somewhere else. If you were a turtle you would not want someone to kill you just to build a power plant if it could be built somewhere else. Maybe the people could find a way to build a power plant without affecting the turles.
NO! They should't build a plant.These speicies are in danger of going extinct. They could always build somewere else mabey like Arizona because its hot there to. They could mabey build a sactuary and see what room is left for the plant so thet don't kill off the tutules.
I think they shouldn't because if they do they could make very rare tortoises go extinct. And if yhey do 1,000 people would get a job but if they didn't no kind of animal will go extinct, and people won't go extinct.

I think they shouldn't do the solar plant because the builders will take the tortoises' home because they live in the desert! It would also be mean to take away something's home and, how would you feel if someone took your home away from you?
No way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the turtles where there first!! i just want to say " That is the meanest thing i have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!" Grrrrrrr. Don't build the silly power place. save the animals. Grrrrrrr.
i think that the plant is a great idea but i also love tortoises. i think that the power-plant people should find another - and completely deserted - place to build the power plant. alsoo this is completely off topic but why build a power plant if you're going to pollute the air while doing it?
I think they should divide the field in half giving the plant and the turtles an equal amount of space.Also when they move the turtles they shouldn't just shove them into their space it will take time for them to move they will move when they're ready.
